Previous Musical Director

It was with great sadness that we said farewell to our Musical Director Peter Foster after our March concert. As well as conducting CCS, he is Director of Music at St.Helen’s Church Abingdon and at Oxford High School. His patience and gently chiding will long be remembered. However, we do get invited to join in with St.Helen’s Church Choir from time to time. Recently we sang at the celebration for the King’s Coronation, a really joyful occasion.

New Musical Director

We are very excited to welcome Benedict Goodall as Musical Director. He joins us this September.

Based in Birmingham, Benedict specialises in both instrumental and choral conducting, working with both professional and amateur groups in the West Midlands and Oxfordshire. He is a graduate of the University of Birmingham, having enjoyed his time there directing prominent student ensembles.

As a singer, Benedict regularly performs in chamber ensembles, as a soloist, and in symphonic choruses. He frequently sings with professional choirs, having previously been a Stipendiary Clerk at Magdalen College Chapel, Oxford and a Lay Clerk at Coventry and Birmingham Cathedrals.

In 2021 Benedict was selected as one of four members of the NYCGB Fellowship Scheme and continues to work with the organisation.

As a professional conductor and singer, Benedict works with vocal and instrumental ensembles across Oxfordshire. Besides Cumnor Choral Society, he directs NewChoir Oxford, the Chipping Norton Choral Society, and the Oxford University Press Choir.

He enjoys his work with the Acafellas, a barbershop quartet which he formed with his best friends at university. http://www.bgoodallmusician.com
