In the beginning

Cumnor Choral Society was founded in 1958 by a group of people keen on singing together. Our numbers have fluctuated over the years and inevitably we have lost dear friends from the choir, including this year Rosemary Smith, who joined when she was only nine years old.

Rehearsals take place on Thursdays from January to March then again from September to December from 7.30-9.30 with a 15 minute break for tea and coffee.

We rehearse in the wonderful new building that is St Andrew’s Church, Orchard Road, Botley.

Our concerts are held in the church of St Peter and St Paul in Botley. We include a magnificent after concert buffet supper in the ticket price. Our concerts are always well attended.

We always welcome new members. Everyone brings something different, not just their voices! (see how to join us).

It is a fact that music and singing are very beneficial to our health, both physical and mental.

‘He who sings scare away his woes’ – Cervantes.

‘Life seems to go on without effort when I am filled with music’ – George Eliot
