Hello friends,
Huge apologies for the delay in getting these notes to you. The rehearsal schedules have been planned for the past few weeks (as I’ve been using them for our rehearsals), but I never got a chance to update my score for you all and write these notes. Thank you for your patience, and I hope all of the below is useful!
How it’s been going
We’ve had a really good start to the term. Firstly, it’s wonderful to see you all again! Secondly, it’s absolutely brilliant to have so many new members – you are all welcome! The fact we ran out of copies in our second week is incredible, so thank you all for your commitment to Cumnor Choral Society!
We’ve already established a good understanding of the piece, as well as finding the challenging moments – those texty movements in particular. Thank you for your hard work on Eternal Light so far.
October Rehearsal Schedule and Update
As per my previous Notes, the Project Sheet is available below. Some people have had problems with the links, so I’ve extracted those and they’re available here (please let me know if you continue to have problems with these):

Marked Scores: Marked Scores
I’ve updated the Marked Score to include two things:
– Blue text is the translation from the Latin, as found on Howard Goodall’s own website.
– Green markings hopefully clarify who is singing what where we’ve had to rejig the parts. Please go through this carefully!
Here is also the rehearsal schedule for the month. Please do come prepared where possible so we can make the most of our rehearsal time.
2026/27 season dates – UPDATED
There have been a couple of updates to the yearly schedule – the first is the Saturday rehearsal on 6th February won’t take place now; we’ll have enough rehearsals in our normal schedule.
The second is the Wheatly-led concert has changed to Saturday 17th April, exactly one week after ours. Please make sure your diaries are updated.
Poster!
Here’s the poster for the concert – please start sharing it far and wide so we get a really good audience for the concert!

Oxford Harmony – 24th October
Oxford Harmony, a barbershop chorus in Oxford who I’ve conducted on occasion, are hosting a workshop led by FORMER KING’S SINGER Chris Bruerton. It looks like a fabulous day, and you literally can’t get better than being coached by a former King’s Singer. If I didn’t have a rehearsal that day I’d be going! Check out the details here: https://oxfordharmony.org.uk/cb26/
You can also check out Chris in action here: https://youtu.be/Gz_2zxo-2w4?si=gPWGXZdrKtzSzXEE&t=93
I think that’s it for now! See you all soon!
– Ben
