September Conductor’s Notes

Dear all,

I hope you’re all well and have had a lovely summer break. I can’t wait to get going again next week, I can’t believe how long it’s been since we last met (but also how quickly the Summer has flown by)!

Here’s hopefully all the information you’ll need for the start of term.

First of all, thank you all for such a brilliant summer term! We had so much fun at our ‘Come-and-Sing Music for a Royal Occasion’ day. We welcomed lots of new and former members, and I believe some of the new people are staying! It was also a pleasure to have the Winchendon Brass join us for the informal run through. I also thoroughly enjoyed the rehearsals leading up to the day too, it was lovely to work on such a wide selection of music and really develop some excellent choral skills.

A huge thank you to Fiona for her expertise on the piano in both our rehearsals and on the day.

As many of you know, we were delighted to welcome Robin to the family at the start of July. He’s settled in really well, Bec is doing wonderfully, Ezra’s loving being a big brother, and we’ve all had a busy but happy summer settling in. I want to say an enormous thank you for all the kind messages we’ve received, we’ve been so touched by everyone’s lovely support. You are all so kind, and we can’t wait to introduce Robin to everyone soon!

Here’s the digital poster, updated with all our musicians for the concert. Please do share widely, so we can have an excellent audience!

I can’t wait to get started again with our autumn term programme, the main work of which is Howard Goodall’s (no relation) beautiful and highly moving Eternal Light. This is probably the most challenging piece we’ve done, so will spend the first few weeks of term working on it, and then start the Christmas music later on in the term.

Here are all the details for the term that you’ll need, laid out in the Project Sheet. On it, you’ll find all the dates, marked scores, learning resources, and all other information you’ll need. Please look through it carefully.

Here is also the rehearsal schedule for the month. Please do come prepared where possible so we can make the most of our rehearsal time.

Here’s a list of everything happening between now and June next year. Please make sure these are all in your diaries!

The main exciting things to look forward to are our Autumn concert (Goodall Eternal Light), Christmas carol singing, joint concerts with Wheatley Singers (Mozart and Faure Requiems), and our summer come-and-sing.

Thank you all so much, I can’t wait to see you all next week!
Very best wishes,
Ben
